Riya is driven by curiosity and has a deep passion for understanding systems and how design impacts human behaviour. After completing a degree in Interior Architecture and Design in India, she soon realised that her true interest lay in researching and designing systems rather than just spaces. To gain a deeper understanding of how humans and the environment interact—and how these dynamics shape the design of the systems we occupy—she pursued a Master’s degree in Design Expanded Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Since then, Riya has practised various methods and processes that help ground conversations, prioritise needs, and find solutions that turn challenges into inspiration. Her work has allowed her to engage with a range of topics, including the environment, sustainability, mental health, crafts, and culture. Each project she has undertaken has taught her the importance of sharpening accountability, integrity, and sensitivity to social and urban challenges.
When Riya is not working, she enjoys eating her favourite pad Thai noodles or brownies, swimming and occasionally walking outdoors (sometimes with a book!). Outside of making sense of the complex systems around us, Riya loves creating things by hand and travelling to unique places around the world.
