GOOD’11 – Thanks for taking part!

Massive thanks to all of you who in some way contributed to making The Great Outdoors of Design, our first conference with the Reach network, such a resounding success. A really diverse crowd made it down to Richmix on Friday 26 September in order to collaboratively explore some of the issues we deal with day-to-day when practicing global design research. The feedback we’ve had so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and it was great for us to be able to take a step back and reflect with some like-minds on the kind of work that we do.

The presentations put on by the speakers were all even better than we expected meanwhile, and it was fantastic to finally sit down with (nearly!) all of the partners in the Reach network in the same room. More and more of our projects are starting to take on a global focus via our work with Reach, and with each successful project we complete it seems like our collaborations become even stronger.
We’re still collecting together all of the materials from the event to share with those of you who couldn’t make it down on the day; keep following us on Twitter at @STBY and we’ll let you know as soon as these are available!

And we’ll keep you updated on the rumours about GOOD’12 – maybe we can all head to Hong Kong next time…

The Subspecies of Design Researcher

As a design research agency, STBY has worked with design researchers of many shapes and sizes. While the role of ‘design researcher’ becomes more common and recognised as a formal position in many different types of organisations, it’s worth reflecting on how we all work and the unique skills and attitudes needed in different settings.
