New website Service Design Netwerk Nederland
We finally managed to sit down together and compile a website for the Dutch Service Design Network, offering a online platform for sharing news and resources.

Call for papers on Service Design
The academic journal Behaviour and Information Technology has accepted to publish a special issue on ‘Services and Human-Computer Interaction: New Opportunities’. A call for papers, explaining the topic and procedure for submitting and reviewing has been sent out (deadline 28 February).
Service Design Talks 20/1
On 20 January we will be getting together again to discuss another recently published and interesting book related to Service Design. This time it’s Tim Brown’s new book ‘Change by Design’.
Innovation Lecture 2009
On 8 December Geke was one of the round-table moderators at the annual Innovation Lecture, organised by the Dutch Ministery of Economic Affairs. The topic of this most recent Innovation Lecture was Service Innovation. Jeneanne Rae (Peer Insight) was invited as the keynote speaker.
Services to support complex decision making
In collaboration with Broca & Wernicke, STBY investigated the complex decision making processes within hospitals on the application of surgical treatments. We interviewed people throughout the organisation, from surgeons to medical support staff and financial and operational managers. We found that people’s rationale for the availability and application of specific treatments can differ considerably, depending on the agenda and responsibilities that come with their position. Where medical effectivity and patient comfort is the ultimate driving force for some, costs and operational efficiency can be just as important for others.
Creating design briefs on patient dignity
The Design Council and the Department of Health in the UK have recently initiated a national design challenge ‘Designing for Patient Dignity’. STBY was asked to contribute to the exploratory research that defined the design briefs in the call for proposals.

At the 2009 Service Design Network conference in Madeira, Bas presented a paper with Andreas Sommerwerk of Deutsche Telekom AG.
