More and more members of Spring House in Amsterdam are involved in climate related projects. Does their increasing knowledge about the climate influence their own behaviour? STBY asked nearly 200 Spring House members to share their \u2018climate moments\u2019 and created a staircase exhibition that is currently displayed in Spring House, the shared office building where STBY is based.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition \u2018Climate Pioneering\u2019 shows thoughts and experiences on climate action by Spring House members in daily life. Each poster in the exhibition gives a glimpse into a personal quest for sustainable living. From waking up to winding down at night, and the time in between, there are lots of occasions we all make climate conscious or unconscious decisions. The staircase exhibition shows various examples: from a plastic free diet to a plastic collection after cooking supper, clothes sharing through a fashion library, waste separation at home, and city gardening.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exploring \u2018climate\u2019 within daily life<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

At the Spring House Climate Summit in November 2018 we focused on climate within our professional lives, with Climate Pioneering we now want to explore \u2018climate\u2019 in the personal lives of Spring House members. At the Climate Summit we created a network map that helps us to make connections between projects and people, and shows us how we can collectively make a difference as a community. The exhibition is the follow-up in which the collection of posters together shows that every little act counts, and adds up to something bigger. No matter how difficult and sometimes confusing our climate-conscious journey gets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Experimenting with an eco-friendly design<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

When we ask people to share their thoughts and experiences on climate in daily life, we of course must do our best to be sustainable too. That is why we asked ourselves how to design an eco-friendly staircase exhibition. We experimented quite a lot, and came up with the idea to use recycled printed paper for all text, collected on the 2nd floor of the building where the printers are located. The font we used for the headings is Ryman Eco. This is an environmentally sustainable typeface that uses an average of 33% less ink than standard fonts.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, we intend to reuse the posters from the exhibition at a conference we are currently organising in London, the Great Outdoors of Design (GOOD) on the 27th of June 2019. Before we recycle all the paper, we are keen to come up with other ideas about how to give the materials a longer life.<\/span><\/p>\n
