STBY wins Rotterdam Public Design Prize

On the last day of January the Rotterdam Designprijs (decided by a jury) and the Rotterdam Design Publieksprijs (decided by public vote) were announced. Interestingly, both prizes went to product service systems rather than products, brands or even experiences. Both jury and the public favoured integral, holistic approaches of complex challenges societies and economies face.

Design Transitions

A new book that features our work was recently launched: ‘Design Transitions’ by Joyce Yee, Emma Jefferies and Lauren Tan. This book presents a series of stories on how design is changing around the world. From small practices to vast corporations, the renowned to the lesser known: the authors collected the stories of people working at the fringes of the traditional disciplines of design. They have interviewed people in 12 countries around the world, who represent 3 different communities: design agencies, organisations embedding design, and design academics. STBY is one of these agencies. Design Transitions is published by BIS Publishers […]

We’re proud to have STBY mentioned in an article along with other agencies in the lastest issue of the ‘Ottagono’ . The article reflects on how the some of the most prominent international design studios develop interactive tools for designing the intangible. The ‘Ottagono’  is a monthly bilingual magazine from Italy covering contemporary design and architecture around the world. STBY Are Now on Twitter!

We’ve been on there for a while now as individuals but we thought it was high-time we joined in as a company as well.

Say yes to the mess!

For ‘The week of Service Design’ on Molblog, the online platform of the Dutch Marketing Magazine, Geke van Dijk was invited to contribute an article to illustrate the benefits of design research for service innovation.

STBY magazine – Service Innovation Inspired by People

Motivated by the limited amount of literature on design research and service design currently available, we initiated STBY magazine. The first issue was published and distributed to clients, prospects and peers during the past few months in hard copy, but we also want to offer the contents as a downloadable PDF here. STBY magazine offers a collection of case study based stories, intended to introduce both the theory and practice of the emerging fields of design research and service design. The contents is based on the work of STBY, being one of the leading pioneers in both these fields. The […]

STBY have designed research projects for an extensive list of high-profile, multinational clients, working within a wide variety of sectors. Whether we’re working with leading universities, healthcare providers, entertainment companies or multinationals however, our approach remains focused on building effective, long-term relationships. We often perform several projects for the same client, with our relationship extending over several years. We don’t just conduct service design projects, we help companies use the materials we deliver by running workshops and user labs with teams from all over the organisation. When service providers want to re-orientate their internal research around service design […]

World class pioneers and creative thinkers

As one of the first companies to begin creating projects around the principles of design research and service design, STBY have been intimately involved with the ongoing development of these fields of work. We’ve written papers, magazine and book chapters, founded collaborative and information-sharing networks, and given talks at national and international conferences all across the world. This involvement with design research and service design’s continued evolution keeps us at the forefront of the field, as through our work we’re helping to define it.

Looking for an internship at STBY?

STBY have recently hosted interns at both our UK and Amsterdam offices. Though we don’t run a formal internship programme, we’re always interested in hearing from bright, enthusiastic, current students who want to learn more about design research and service design. This usually takes between 4-6 months, as we like our interns to be involved in all aspects of what we do; once you’re comfortable with the basics, we’ll ask you to contribute to one of our ongoing projects. If you’d like to know more then send some examples of your work along with a short introduction to mail@stby.eu, and […]
