Presenting Engaging Design Projects at Goldsmiths

We’ve been working with the latest cohort of Goldsmiths’ MA Design students on their current term project, ‘Engaging Design.’ The design research brief asks students to engage with a Public Body in the UK of their choosing as a starting point.

DIY toolkit – 1 year old

The DIY toolkit we created with Nesta and Quicksand last year has just passed its first birthday. And what a year it was! Since its launch the website has had 350.000 visits, from all over the globe (200 different countries). And 40.000 tools were downloaded. Every person who completed thequestionnaire about their usage of the toolkit said that they feel more effective as a result. That is a compliment we are very happy to take.

Design Driven Business Innovation

Following on the success in previous years, STBY again co-organised and co-lectured the third edition of this 8-week master course at the Business School of the University of Amsterdam. Together with Dr. Wietze van der Aa, we supervised 35 international business and management students who are all keen to immerse themselves in a more Design-Driven and Human-Centered approach to Business Innovation.

Exchange about state of the art service innovation

We were honoured to welcome a delegation of Japanese business visitors to our office in Amsterdam. They were interested to learn more about our pioneering work as design researchers for service innovation. We shared our vision on the current state of the art in the field, as well as some emerging trends we observe in the context of our work.

Apogee Hosts UXHK 2015

Apogee, our partner in the REACH network for Global Design Reserach, recently hosted their annual User Experience Hong Kong Event (UXHK). Through presentations, discussions, and workshops, the event aims to bring together designers across disciplines to re-examine what it means to design meaningful experiences for both people and businesses.

Modifying and applying tools to context

We recently hosted a day-long workshop with Microsoft, where we explored the potentials of the tools in the DIY Toolkit (Development Impact & You) for their team. In this immersive hands-on workshop we looked at how these tools can be used among multidisciplinary design teams, to both communicate design research findings to stakeholders as well as identify design actions for the future. Using behaviour films and heuristic data as our starting point, we looked at how these tools can provide a beneficial structure to the ongoing, open-ended collaborations amongst designers. The tools in the DIY Toolkit are versatile and can be applied […]

She is furthermore involved in the European research project TRADERS. Six (PhD) researchers in the Netherlands, Belgium, UK and Sweden receive funding from the Marie Curie European Union’s Seventh Framework Program. The project aims to develop tools for training future art and design practitioners and researchers to work in participatory ways in public space context, of which each researcher tests and develops […]
