Next Service Design Network conference in Berlin

Bas was invited to sit on the Programme Board of the next Service Design Network conference (SDNC10) and took part in a first meeting in Koeln this weekend. Others in the board are: prof. Birgit Mager, Felix Somerville-Scharf (Volkswagen), Elena Pacenti (Domus Academy), Arne van Oosterom (Design Thinkers), Satu Miettinem (Kuopio), Asier Péréz (Funky Projects) and Mark Stickdorn (Management Center Innsbruck). We discussed at length how we can involve the international service design community in the programming of the conference and decided that we will use social media where possible to do so. Berlin will be the city where the conference is held, probably in October (the precise date is to be announced shortly by SDN.) This will be initiated by calls for contributions and collaborations that will be sent out in due time using several channels. We will post them here too.

The Subspecies of Design Researcher

As a design research agency, STBY has worked with design researchers of many shapes and sizes. While the role of ‘design researcher’ becomes more common and recognised as a formal position in many different types of organisations, it’s worth reflecting on how we all work and the unique skills and attitudes needed in different settings.
