For the University of Amsterdam STBY facilitated a series of workshops with students, lecturers and system operators to inform the iterative development of its new Electronic Learning System (ELO).

The Information Centre of the university, who are developing the ELO based on Blackboard software, wanted to have in-depth conversations with their wide range user groups throughout the development process of the new ELO. STBY prepared a series of 3 workshops were the participants explored and discussed the various options and iterative prototypes for the new ELO.

To keep everyone active and focused, the programmes for the sessions were based on a fast paced cycle of group assignments, plenary discussions and individual feedback. The participants had access to the ELO in progress, so they could follow the development in various stages.

Over the course of 6 months 3 workshops took place. The timing of the workshops also helped the development team to stay on their toes and make sure they had something new to show the participants for every session. Both sides were eager to reflect on the progress and discuss further improvements.

For the Dutch Institute for Multicultural Development FORUM, a highly acclaimed knowledge base on diversity, we have completed a two-step research project informing the evaluation and innovation of their service delivery. We interviewed a wide sample of their targetmarket across The Netherlands (policy makers for governments, schools and welfare organisations) about their current relationship with FORUM and potential improvements to the service design. We also completed an expert validation of their online services to advise on the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement. Based on the integrated report and two strategic workshops FORUM has developed a fresh perspective on how to deliver a portfolio of intergrated multi-channel services. (NL, 2008)

(Un)common Ground is an international research network exploring the practice of creative, cross-sector collaborations. Case studies of state-of-the-art projects on the crossroads of design, technology, business, science, arts and education are scrutinised in expert meetings and publications to uncover what characterises creative innovation. STBY is a member of the core editorial group that assembles the programme for Virtueel Platform Amsterdam and Utrecht School of the Arts. In September 2007 we organized the second annual expert meeting, where creatives from Brazil, South Africa, United Kingdom and The Netherlands presented their work and participated in group discussions. In April 2007 we published the book Uncommon Ground (BIS publishers, Amsterdam). (NL-UK, 2006-2007)
