Geke van Dijk

Geke van Dijk is the strategy director of STBY. She holds a master degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (1989) and a PhD degree in Computer Sciences from the Open University in Milton Keynes (2007). Since the early nineties she has worked in the internet and media industry as consultant and research manager.

Geke is fascinated by how technology is constantly shaping our society and culture, and how society is constantly shaping our technology. Suppliers do not only offer online services because it is technologically possible and more efficient, but also because the customers are demanding it. And customers are not only using the Internet because it is a hip new technology, but also because it fits with their contemporary need for immediate contact and detailed information.

In 1993 Geke co-founded ACS-i media research projects which grew to a 25 people enterprise, closely working together with ad agencies and IT-developers. In 2000 ACS-i was acquired by Lost Boys and Geke continued to work as Managing Director of Lost Boys content usability until the end of 2002.

Over the years Geke has broadened her field of work from mainly web and communication focused to ubiquitous computing (mobile and wireless) and to include more general marketing issues and business strategy. In 2003 she completed a mastercourse at the College for Marketing Communications at Nijenrode University (Dutch Business School).

From 2003 onwards, in parallel to her work for STBY, Geke conducted a PhD-research at The Open University in Milton Keynes, UK. The title of her thesis is: Pick and Mix – Consumers moving between online and offline channels. Her supervisors were Dr. Shailey Minocha (OU Department of Computing) and Prof. Angus Laing (OU Business School).
